Tales from Maroneia – The Legend of Torone

This cast glass sculpture draws inspiration from the mythic landscapes of ancient Thrace and the northern Aegean coast. Linked to the figure of Torone — a princess of Sithonia in Greek mythology — the work explores the threshold between sea, memory, and myth.

Deep cobalt tones and luminous translucent gradients evoke both the depth of water and layered temporal experience. The form suggests a ship’s prow, a rising wave, and a subtle human presence, creating a mythopoetic image of passage and transformation. Through the interplay of textured and polished surfaces, the sculpture affirms myth as a living cultural memory embedded in the natural landscape.
